Digital Wave helped the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) develop a strategic approach to reduce content and improve usability, creating the foundation for numerous initiatives. We have provided analysis, architecture, and programming for many initiatives: a trainee records management tool (“FasTrack”), a custom survey microsite, and multiple web interactives and infographics. In 2022, the Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment website received an eHealthcare Gold Award in the Best Landing Page or Microsite, Healthcare Association or Professional Organization category.
The monthly user testing we conduct on our marketing and interactive work has given us a tremendous ROI. We have reduced costs on some of our work but, more importantly, we have learned a lot about our users’ needs, letting us give them the things they prefer and want instead of just what we think they need.

Public Site Refresh
In 2025, we helped ABIM launch a refreshed public site, streamlining high impact content areas and user functions for both physicians and patients. ABIM’s goal was to simplify the information and improve the navigation and paths for their various user groups. We built on our previous experiences working together to refresh every aspect of the site, including:
- Design and UX that addressed feedback from users
- A new front and back end built in Umbraco that simplified maintenance for web managers
- Content strategy to guide ongoing and future initiatives

Long Term Relationship
Since 2006 we have worked with ABIM to improve and evolve their digital presence. We meet regularly and have become a trusted part of the team, giving us valuable background and experience that is invaluable when trying to communicate the complicated topics ABIM needs to relay to their constituents. Over the years we’ve collaborated to accomplish:
- Responsive redesigns of their public site and physician portal
- Ongoing user testing to inform iterative experience improvements
- Content architecture assessment and adjustments
- Consistent design and development for new initiatives
- Branding and user experience consultation
