Digital Wave incorporated by current president James Horigan, specializing in information technology consulting for firms such as Price Waterhouse and Goldsmith | Jeffrey in metropolitan New York
Sales/service network Tony Rose & Associates established, providing creative direction and (CD-ROM) multimedia development services primarily to Chicago-based firms such as Harris Bank and the Chicago Board of Trade
The two firms begin working together, providing a unique combination of technical and communications/creative disciplines and thereby earning opportunities with early adopters of user-focused initiatives in the web space, including an early online registration interface for Mellon Bank's Gold Master Card, one of the first affiliate programs for AT&T, and the online interface integration of Unisys Corporation's real-time scoring system for the U.S. Open golf tournament, marking possibly the first time web surfers could get access to real-time event results for a major athletic event
The two firms merged as Digital Wave Technologies, Inc. retaining many of the personnel that now comprise its long-term team of core strategic specialists. The company opened offices in Hatboro, PA, later moving to Huntingdon Valley, PA, specializing in optimization of online presences based on user acceptance long before the word "usability" became mainstream, and establishing a basis of service to clients in the greater Atlantic region, including Airgas, the Delaware Dept. of Transportation, Intersearch Corporation, Kulicke & Soffa, Inc., and Pasteur Mérieux Connaught, while also serving national clients such as EG&G/PerkinElmer (Boston) and The Polk Company (Detroit)
As the over-saturated market experienced a pendulum swing and many firms exited the web business, Digital Wave concentrated on maintaining its staff of consultants and nurturing long-term relationships with clients such as K'NEX Toys, ICT Group, and MedImmune, Inc. Specializing in the optimization of online initiatives and the integration of third-party feeds and services, Digital Wave worked intimately with the engineers of CCBN, PCQuote, and Shareholder.com for truly integrated financial reporting environments, while developing custom back-end integration solutions for Sumisho U.S., the Ford Motor Company, Capital Analysts, and others.
Through its strategic approach to service, the Company became recognized for its ability to protect the investments of not-for-profit and other "dot org" clients, leading to rapid growth of this market specialty and a strong client base in the Washington, D.C. area. Clients included Graduate Education Foundation, the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, National Community Capital Association, and the nation's leading foundation for the advancement of health care awareness and practices.
Digital Wave began to focus on user discovery and strategic analysis for the higher education market, working on multiple initiatives for Rutgers University and Drexel University.
